Protest against nuclear plant called off on Jayalalithaa's assurance

The residents of coastal hamlets around the nuclear plant at Koodankulam in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, who were protesting against Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNP) for the last ten days, today decided to call off their agitation following an assurance by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to look into the issue.

Some of the protestors went in a delegation and called on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat here this morning.

Ms Jayalalitha assured them that the state cabinet would take a decision to protect the interest of the local people.
