Farooq Khan appointed as Administrator of Lakshadweep

Mr. Farooq Khan, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
His appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge of his office, an official press release said.
Mr. Khan, who was an Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Jammu & Kashmir, headed the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy at Udhampur before his retirement from the IPS.
He had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2015 and a year later was appointed as one of its national secretaries. He was also put in charge of the party's Minority Morcha.
