DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra dies of COVID-related complications

Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), passed away here today due to COVID-19-related complications.
Mohapatra, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1986 batch (Gujarat cadre), was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here in mid-April.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the demise of Mohapatra.
"Saddened by the demise of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, DPIIT Secretary. I had worked with him extensively in Gujarat and at the Centre. He had a great understanding of administrative issues and was known for his innovative zeal. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," Modi said on Twitter.
"Extremely saddened to hear about the loss of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary DPIIT. His long-standing service and dedication to the Nation have left a lasting impact. I convey my deepest sympathies to his family and friends," Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet.
Before taking over as Secretary, DPIIT in August 2019, Mohapatra had served as chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). He also had a stint as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce.
In Gujarat, among other assignments, he had served as Municipal Commissioner in Surat and later in Ahmedabad.
Healso served as the Transport Commissioner and Commissioner, Commercial Taxes in Gujarat.
He had also served as Managing Director of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd. (GACL) and Managing Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company Limited (GNFC).
