Five clinics, ultrasound machines sealed in Odisha for violations of PC & PNDT Act

Five clinics, along with five ultrasound machines, have been sealed in the Nayagarh and Bhubaneswar districts of Odisha for alleged violations under the Pre- Conception & Pre- Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994.
The action followed surprise inspections undertaken by the National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) team, constituted under the PC & PNDT Act, 1994 at clinics/ facilities offering ultrasound diagnostic services in Nayagarh and Bhubaneswar districts of Odisha on January 19-20, 2012. 
An official press release said here today that the inspection team comprised members from Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and civil society. 
Appropriate authorities from the State and the respective districts also accompanied the team during the field visit. 
The team visited a total of six facilities in Nayagarh and Bhubaneswar districts and undertook verification of equipment and examination of records valid under the PC & PNDT Act. 
The Central Supervisory Board under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad in its  meeting held on June 4, 2011 had decided to empower the National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) to ensure effective action against clinics/facilities found prima facie guilty of violating the provisions of the Act.
