IMD forecasts fall in minimum temperatures over northwest, central India, Gujarat in next 4-5 days

New Delhi, December 16, 2021

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today forecast that there could be a fall in minimum teperatures by 2-4° over most parts of NorthWest and adjoining Central India and Gujarat during the next four to five days.

In a bulletin, the IMD said minimum temperatures could fall by 2-3° over most parts of East India and Maharashtra during the next four days.

The bulletin warned of a cold wave or severe cold wave conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Saurashtra and Kutch during December 17-21, over north Rajasthan during December 18-21, over West Uttar Pradesh during December 19-21 and over Gujarat region on December 19-20.

According to the IMD, there could be dense or very dense fog in the morning hours over Punjab and Haryana on December 17 and 18; over northwest Rajasthan, Assam and Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on December 17.

There could be ground frost conditions in the morning hours in isolated pockets over Saurashtra and Kutch, Punjab and Haryana during the next four days, the bulletin said.

The IMD said that a western disturbance, as a cyclonic circulation, lay over northwest Pakistan. Under its influence, there could be light to moderate rainfall or snowfall at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next two days and isolated light rainfall over northern part of Punjab and Haryana on December 16.

The bulletin also forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the next five days; and over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on December 20.
