Telangana extends lockdown by 10 days, but with increased daily relaxation hours

Hyderabad, May 30, 2021

The Telangana government today decided to extend the lockdown, imposed to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic by another ten days from tomorrow but with longer relaxation hours.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

There would a relaxation in the lockdown restrictions from 6 am to 1 pm instead of 6 am to 10 am until now.

The state government had announced a 10-day lockdown from May 12 to rein in the surge in coronavirus cases. This was later extended by another week, which was due to end today.

"The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has decided to extend the lockdown for another ten days starting tomorrow. The State-wide lockdown would be relaxed from 6 AM to 1 PM," the Chief Minister's Office said on Twitter.

"A grace period till 2 PM would be given for citzens to return home. Lockdown would be enforced strictly from 2 PM to 6 AM the next day, the Cabinet decided," it added.

IANS adds:

The decision for further extension of the lockdown was taken after the Cabinet felt that continuing the curbs for few more days would further help the state in checking the spread of Covid.

Industry and Information Technology Minister K. T. Rama Rao said the Cabinet also decided to allow limited revival of economic activity. Guidelines in this regard will be issued soon.
