The Rakshashakti University, set up by the Gujarat Government as a world-class institution to train youth in the area of internal security, was inaugurated here yesterday by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said a large number of youth were willing to serve the nation in this area but they needed to be trained in the latest technologies to counter terrorism, insurgency and extremism.

To begin with, the university is offering a Diploma in Police Science, for which 160 students have been admitted.

The Gujarat Government has allocated a 192-acre plot of land near the state capital, Gandhinagar, for the university's own campus. The university will soon start offering under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes, in-service courses and research programmes.

The programmes will be aimed at preparing students to join police and para-military forces, among other options.

This is the third such institution set up by the State Government ater the Gujarat National Law University and the Forensic Science University.
