An earthquake of moderate intensity, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, shook Meghalaya and parts of Assam and north Bengal this evening.
A bulletin from the National Center for Seismology said the quake, which had its epicentre at latitude 26.3 N and longitude 90.7 E, about 100 km north-northeast of Tura in Meghalaya, occurred at 1817 hours today at a focal depth of 10 km.
The tremor was also felt in parts of Bhutan.
