Mechanised sailing operations to Colombo resumed from old Tuticorin Port

Mechanised sailing vessel operations resumed today after a gap of two years from the old port of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu to Colombo.

According to sources, the operations will be weekly and all arrangements have been made to facilitate freight transfer.

The vessel carried a 330-tonne consignment to the island nation, 150 nautical miles away. A total of 2,000 litres of diesel was required for a vessel for a two-way trip.

Small traders can now send even small quantity of goods through Snow Shipping Services, Tuticorin Chartered Agent, the sources added.
