PSLV to launch French remote sensing satellite Spot-6

Bangalore, April 3, 2012

An advanced French remote sensing satellite, Spot-6, will be launhed on board Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) during the second half of 2012.

This follows the recent signing of a commercial Launch Services Agreement between Antrix Corporation Limited, the commercial arm of ISRO and Astrium SAS, a company under
EADS, France.
Spot-6, weighing nearly 800 kg, has been built by Astrium. Along with it, the PSLV, in its "core alone" configuration, will also carry other co-passenger payloads.
A press release from ISRO said the Launch Services Agreement signed between Antrix and Astrium was part of the Long Term Agreement signed between the two agencies in September 2008.
In November 2010, under a commercial contract between Antrix and Astrium, an advanced communication satellite Hylas was successfully built by ISRO and Astrium together for a European customer.
In the coming days, further collaboration possibilities between Antrix/ISO and Astrium would be explored, the release added.
