Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel rescued 27 marooned villagers from Parol Nullah near Kathua in Jammu & Kashmir late last evening.

An official press release said that, in response to a request made by the Jammu administration, an IAF Mi-17 helicopter from Jammu airbase was launched to evacuate the villagers who were marooned because of a flash flood that occurred yesterday.

Those evacuated included eleven women, a 62-year-old man and a two-year-old child, the release said.

In a similar operation on July 17, an IAF Mi-17 helicopter operating from Jammu evacuated eight tourists and three civil defence personnel from a small island on Tawi river following the floods in the region, the release added.
