HRD Ministry sets up panel to look into quality of mid-day meals in schools

Two days after more than 20 children died of food poisoning after eating the mid-day meal at a government primary school in Chhapra, Bihar, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) today set up a new committee to go into the quality aspect of the scheme nationwide.
Announcing this, Minister for Human Resource Development M M Pallam Raju said the scheme was very important for promoting primary education in the country.
In response to queries from mediapersons, he accepted that Bihar was alerted about unsatisfactory quality of food served in government schools in 12 districts and Saran district, where the tragedy occurred, was one of them.
