The Union Cabinet today approved the transfer of 16.5 cents (649.52 sq. metres) of land and building belonging to Department of Posts at Thrissur, Kerala to Thrissur Municipal Corporation for the widening of Pattalam Road.
The decision was taken in public interest on the principle of land in exchange for land, an official press release said.
The Department of Posts will get an equal area of land which is about 200 metres away from the existing Thrissur Central Post Office, it said.
The Municipal Corporation will also construct a Post Office having a built up area of 325.16 sq. metre, as per the specifications of Department of Posts including the compound wall with two gates at its cost.
"This proposal of the Corporation related to the widening of the narrow Pattalam road, for accident-free movement of traffic, will benefit people of the area which will get rid of a perpetual traffic bottleneck," it added.
