Bypolls to UP Legislative Council to be held on May 29

Byelections to fill two vacancies in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council will be held on May 29, the Election Commission of India announced today.
The vacancies were caused by the resignation of
Laxman Prasad “Acharya” and the death of Banwari Lal on February 15, 2023.
According to the Election Commission, two separate bypolls will be held on May 29 at which the Members of the Legislature will exercise their franchise.
The issuing of notification will be on May 11. The last day for nominations will be May 18. Scrutiny will be on May 19 and the last day for withdrawal of candidature will be on May 22. Polling will be held from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM. The counting of votes will be on the same day after 05:00 PM. The process of election should be completed before May 31.
