Antony reviews security situation with top brass, to witness Naval exercise

Defence Minister A K Antony reviewed the security situation at a meeting here today with the top brass of the armed forces and the Defence Ministry.
National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne, Chief of Army Staff Gen VK Singh and Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma attended the meeting. 
Accompanied by Admiral Verma, Antony will spend two days on Indian Navy’s platforms off the coast of Vishakhapatnam, beginning tomorrow, to witness Theatre Level Operational Preparedness Exercise (TROPEX).
TROPEX is a major annual exercise of the combined fleets of the Navy conducted to test its preparedness to meet any contingency. 
Almost 40 ships from the two fleets as also submarines, 13 naval aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are participating in the exercise. Units of the Indian Coast Guard and 18 aircraft of the Indian Air Force will also take part. 
A variety of missile firings, air defence exercises and anti-submarine exercises will be witnessed by Antony, an official press release added.
