7 dead, 7 injured after being run over by truck in Ayodhya

Seven pilgrims died and an equal number suffered injuries when a speeding container truck ran over them in the early hours of today while they were sleeping on a pavement in the town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
Official sources said those killed in the incident included four women and three men who hailed from Kanpur.
They were among pilgrims who had come to take part in the month-long "Saawan Mela" on the banks of the Saryu river in the town.
According to sources, the pilgrims were sleeping on the pavement on the Ayodhya-Basti bypass road when the mishap occurred. 
Police said efforts were on to trace the truck and its driver. The bodies of the victims would be handed over to their relatives after post-mortem examination, the sources added.
