44 injured as Sealdah-Ajmer express derails near Kanpur
At least 44 passengers suffered injuries when as many as 15 coaches of the 12987 Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh early this morning.
The mishap occurred around 0520 hours close to Rura station on the Kanpur-Tundla section of North Central Railway (NCR), about 50 km from Kanpur, blocking both the up and down lines on the busy Kanpur-New Delhi route, railway sources said.
According to them, the affected coaches were the sixth to the 20th from the engine andincluded 13 sleepercoaches (S1-S13) and two general coaches.
An accident relief train and medical teams had reached the scene of the accident, they said.
District administration and police officials had also reached the scene and were supervising the rescue and relief efforts. 
Rail traffic on the busy route has been disrupted and efforts were being made to restore normal movement of trains at the earliest.
The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while buses were arranged to carry the other passengers to Kanpur and Agra.
Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu said he was monitoring the situation and had directed senior officials to rush to the site immediately.
"Immediate medical help being provided to the injured. Mobilized resources,directed all concerned to ensure rescue and relief," he said on micro-blogging site Twitter.
"Thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause," he added.
Mr. Prabhu said he had directed the Chairman of the Railway Board and all senior officials to ensure the best possible help to the victims.
"Ex gratia will be paid to injured . All passengers are being provided with necessary assistance to ensure least inconvenience.Doing our best," he said.
He said the the Railways were working with hospitals and the Kanpur Dehat district administration to offer the best possible care for the victims.
The derailment has led to cancellations and diversions of some trains and delays in the running of others. The12033/12034 Kanpur-New Delhi Shatabdi Express will remain cancelled today, the sources said.
