2 swine flu deaths in Gujarat take India toll to 1270

New Delhi, February 8, 2010

Two more deaths in Gujarat have taken the swine flu toll in India to 1270, an official statement said here today.

The statement said the two deaths caused by influenza A (H1N1) were reported during the day today and took the toll in Gujarat to 257.

Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra accounts for 326, while 257 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 182 in Rajasthan, 141 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 38 in Punjab, 37 each in Kerala and Haryana, 22 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 each in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The statement said 52 new cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today, including 21 in Maharashtra, 11 in Rajasthan, 6 in Karnataka, 4 in Madhya Pradesh, 3 each in Delhi and Gujarat, 2 in Chandigarh and 1 each in Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,116, the statement added.
