10 killed, 21 hurt in two accidents in Visakhapatnam district

Ten people were killed and 21 others injured in two road accidents in this district of Andhra Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

Police today said six people, including the Sarpanch of Bennavaram, were killed and 20 others injured when their jeep fell into a valley near Kadsilpal under Kothapalem Panchayat in Chintapalli mandal in the district late last night.

The accident occurred when around 30 people, including women of Kothapalem and Bennavaram panchyats, were returning after getting pending bills of Indiramma Housing Scheme from Chintapalli.

The injured were admitted to Primary Health Centre in Chintapalle and Narasipatnam.

In another accident, four people were killed and one person suffered serious injuries when their car overturned after hitting a milestone on the national highway near Anakapalli in the district early yesterday.

According to police, the accident occured when four friends, who were also partners in land excavation equipment business, were returning in the car to Visakhapatnam from Bhimavaram of West Godavari district after finishing a business deal.

The deceased were identified as G Venkata Varma(42), G Soma Raju (32), G Srinu (28) and Y Naga Gowrinath(33), all belonging to Kancharapalem area in the port city.
