Noted Kannada film actor Darshan Toogudeepa, who was denied bail by a local court today, was today shifted to the Central Jail in the city from a hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, challenging the lower court order, Darshan moved the High Court for bail in connection with a case of alleged brutal attack and threat to kill his wife Vijayalakshmi.

The court posted the hearing of the petition for September 23.

The First ACMM Court Judge R B Budihal, who held hearing over video conferencing, extended Darshan's judicial custody till October 4.

Darshan, who was arrested on September 5, was admitted to hospital for treatment of jaundice and asthma and today, the doctors decided that he was recovered sufficiently and discharged him.

Soon after the discharge, he was shifted to the jail by the authorities.

Darshan's counsel S K Venkatareddy moved the bail application under Section 439 of the CrPC which was admitted by the court.

The City Civil Court had, yesterday, rejected the bail plea from the actor on four counts.

In his 12-page order, Judge Budihal had said the bail cannot be granted as the investigation was still pending and granting bail may affect it; the kind of cruelty he showed on his wife; the offence of threatening to kill her falls under Sec 307 and there was every chance Darshan could influence witnesses and hamper investigation.

Darshan was arrested after Vijayalakshmi wrote a police complaint from the hospital bed charging her husband with brutal attack on her, threatening to kill her with a revolver and trying to strangulate to death their three-year-old son.
