KVK in Ahmednagar to get Community Radio Station

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Babhaleshwar in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra will soon have a Community Radio Station (CRS). An official statement issued here today said the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting had signed an agreement in this regard with the institution. The station is expected to become operational within three months and will take the number of CRS in the country to 44. The CRS at Babhaleshwar is aimed at taking the programmes of activities of the KVK to the wider farming community and replicating the success stories so that the benefit of information services increases the livelihood opportunities for the target community, the statement said. The KVK a Babhaleshwar is one of the leading such centres in the country and it was given the Best KVK award in 1998-99 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It has primarily made significant inroads into organising farmer-centric programmes through Group Organisation, Production and distribution of biofertilizers, biopesticides and use of Information Technology. Several innovative technologies have been disseminated on large scale through mass media like radio, television, newspapers and other media. The KVK would serve a population of over 8.15 lakh, many of whom are from the disadvantaged sections of society. Agriculture is the main occupation for most of them. INT
