New Delhi, December 17, 2021
The focus in the con thriller Matsya Kaand, currently streaming on Mx player, may be on Ravii Dubey, who essays the protagonist Matsya in the web series, but Zoya Afroz, the female lead, has also caught attention from viewers as smart woman Urvashi who plays an important role in success of the con jobs done by Matsya.
Amid accolades for Matsya Kaand, which has gripped viewers with its engrossing screenplay and edge-of-the-seat thrills, Zoya said that playing the character of Urvashi has been a great opportunity for her.
"My character of Urvashi in Matsya Kaand is quite multi-faceted. What I specially liked about it was that there are several layers to her personality. Urvashi is a go getter. She is extremely smart and clear about what she wants in life. She is a strong-headed girl. At the same time, there is also a wild side to her," Zoya Afroz said in a chat.
Zoya said that she was quite excited about playing Urvashi the moment she heard the script.
"The character is quite different from what I have done before. Hearing the script I felt that there are a lot of similarities between the character of Urvashi and myself. In fact, the moment I heard the script, I felt like the role of Urvashi was tailor-made for me," she said.
Zoya says that she is fortunate to be sharing screen space with accomplished actors like Piyush Mishra, Ravii Dubey and Ravi Kishan, whose performances have also won praise.
"I got to learn a lot from these actors," she said.
She also said that she is extremely excited about the response to the series.
Zoya Afroz made her debut as a child artiste in the television series Kora Kagaz in 1998. She subsequently played a child artiste in Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Saath Saath Hain, Mann and Kuch Naa Kaho.
She made her Bollywood debut as an adult in the thriller The Expose in 2014.
Later, she was cast in the 2017 film Sweetiee Weds NRI opposite Himanshu Kohli. In 2018, she appeared in the Tamil film Paamban.
Zoya then appeared for the 2020 edition of the annual Kingfisher calendar.
She was last seen in the film "Kabaad The Coin" opposite Vivaan Shah.
A Miss India International 2021 , competing at the Glamanand Supermodel India contest, Zoya will represent India at the Miss International 2022 beauty pageant in Japan.
