Romance, comedy, youth & action dramas to entertain on OTT this week

With stay at home becoming the new normal amid the continuing threat of the Covid pandemic and digital becoming the new destination for entertainment lovers, an eclectic mix of web series and films are set to enthrall viewers on various OTT platforms this week.
They include sweet romantic tales, hilarious comedies, and youth and action dramas.
Streaming on OTT this week are Kannada romantic comedy Ikkat, Tamil period drama Sarpatta Parambarai, anthologies Chutzpah and Feels Like ishq, coming of age youth comedy drama Hostel Daze and comedy 14 Phere
Scheduled for premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 21 is Ikkat, which is based on the changing relationship between husband and wife during the Covid pandemic and the lockdown.
Ikkat is the story of a couple who constantly bicker, but are forced to be holed up together because of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Cabin fever gets the best of them and hilarious situations ensue.
Ikkat stars Nagabhushana NS and Bhoomi Shetty in the lead.
While Nagabhushana has previously appeared in films like French Biryani, U Turn and Ondalla Eradalla, Bhoomi makes her Sandalwood debut with Ikkat.
July 22 will see the release of Sarpatta Parambarai on Amazon Prime Video.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith, who has also co-produced the film under his banner Neelam Productions, along with Shanmugam Dhakshanaraj of K9 Studios, Sarpatta Parambarai stars Arya, Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy, Anupama Kumar and Sanchana Natarajan.
Set during the 1980s, the film revolves around a clash between two clans, Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai, in North Chennai, which also showcases the boxing culture in the locality and also the politics involved in it.
Sarpatta Parambarai was initially scheduled for theatrical release, but later the makers decided to directly release it on OTT due to prevailing uncertainty on reopening of theatres across India due to Covid-19.
The film has already made a business of Rs 35 crore prior to its release, including the satellite television rights and Hindi dubbing rights of the film.
The film was originally slated for release on August 12 during the Independence Day weekend. However, on 8 July 2021, Amazon Prime Video India announced a series of the original shows and content for the platform's July release, to coincide the Prime Day celebrations, with Sarpatta Parambarai being scheduled for release on July 22.
This week will also see the release of Chutzpah on Sony Liv and Feels Like Ishq on Netflix.
Chutzpah, an anthology that explores internet culture through five interconnected stories, releases on Sony Liv on July 23.
Produced by Maddock Outsider, Chutzpah features Fukrey stars Varun Sharma and Manjot Singh along with Gautam Mehra, Tanya Maniktala, Elnaaz Norouzi and Kshitij Chauhan.
Speaking about the anthology, Manjot said, 'Chutzpah is a show about how we project ourselves, and the courage of being yourself on the internet.”
Releasing on Netflix on July 23 is Feels Like ishq, which is centered on the theme of the cute feeling of "love at first sight" between two strangers.
Feels Like Ishq comprises meet-cute stories from directors Ruchir Arun, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, Anand Tiwari, Danish Aslam, Jaydeep Sarkar and Sachin Kundalkar.
It will feature an ensemble cast that includes popular actors like Radhika Madan, Amol Parashar, Neeraj Madhav, Tanya Maniktala, Kajol Chug, Mihir Ahuja, Simran Jehani, Rohit Saraf, Saba Azad, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Zayn Khan and Skand Thakur.
Devrath Sagar is the creative director of Feel Like Ishq, which has been produced by Mutant Films and Awesomeness TV.
Executive producers of the series are Seher Aly Latif, Shivani Saran of Mutant Films and Shelley Zimmerman, Brin Lukens and Jennifer Vasquez of Awesomeness TV.
The trailer of Feels Like Ishq, released by Netflix today, gives us a sneak peek into six cute stories of strangers meeting in unforeseen circumstances and finding themselves drawn towards each other.
The trailer takes viewers through the awkward first impressions and bitter sweet encounters of the youngsters, that metamorphose into love and attraction.
Also releasing on July 23 on Amazon Prime Video is the youth drama Hostel Daze, that is based on life on a college campus.
Created by Saurabh Khanna and Abhishek Yadav and directed by Raghav Subbu, Hostel Daze stars Adarsh Gourav, Luv, Shubham Gaur, Nikhil Vijay and Ahsaas Channa in the lead roles.
Season 1 of Hostel Daze released on Amazon Prime Video in 2019.
Joining the list of OTT releases this summer is Priyadarshan's Hungama 2, which will be released on Disney Hotstar on July 23.
Being produced by Venus Records and Tapes, Hungama 2, a sequel to the 2013 hit Hungama, features Shilpa Shetty, Pranati Subhas, Paresh Rawal, Manoj Jishi, Meehan Jaffry and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.
The 2013 film starred Paresh Rawal, Shoma Anand, Akshay Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani in pivotal roles.
After the action thriller State of Seige Temple attack, Zee5 streaming platform will this week premiere 14 Phere, a social comedy which tells the story of a boy and girl from different communities trying to get married by arranging fake sets of parents.
Sanjay, a Rajput from Jahanabad, which is known for honour killings, is in love with Aditi, a Jat from Jaipur whose father and elder brother will kill to keep their honour. Both are very close to their families, yet they want to get married.
In order to live together, they plan to con their families by arranging a set of fake parents and reliable allies so that Sanjay can show Aditi as a Rajput girl and Aditi can show Sanjay as a Jat boy to get married before eloping to the US. Will they manage to make it?
Directed by Devanshu Singh and produced by Zee Studios, 14 Phere stars Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead roles.
