Actor Dhanush and wife Aishwaryaa announce separation after "18 years of togetherness"

Actor Dhanush and his wife Aishwaryaa today announced that they had decided to separate after "18 years of togetherness".

"18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting.

"Today we stand at a place where our paths separate...Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better," Dhanush said on Twitter.

"Please do respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this," he added.

Aishwaryaa, the elder daughter of Tamil megastar Rajinikanth and a filmmaker and singer, also posted an identical statement on her Instagram page.

The two had got married on November 18, 2004. They have two sons, Yatra and Linga, born in 2006 and 2010.
