The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened steady at 19,091.78 on scattered demand from local operators.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell by 13.10 pts at 5716.00.
At the moment, the Sensex had eased by 59.33 points to 19,031.84 because of selling in Realty, FMCG, Auto and Bankex stocks.
The Sensex recorded a high and low of 19,106.79 and 18,976.10, respectively.
The Nifty registered a high and low of 5,750.25 and 5,693.25, respectively.
Hero Honda was the major loser, down by 3.29 per cent to Rs 1802.50, followed by BHEL, Tata Power, DLF, Maruti Suzuki, ITC, ONGC and and Tata Motors.
The heavyweight stocks like IT, Teck and Consumer Durables improved along with HDFC Bank, Rel Comm, TCS, Rel Infra, Mahindra and Mahindra and L & T.
The gainers were HDFC Bank by 1.05 per cent to 2340.05, Rel Comm by 0.99 per cent to 106.65, TCS by 0.46 per cent to Rs 1154.95, Rel Infra by 0.35 per cent to Rs 676.50 and L & T by 0.20 per cent to Rs 1684.25.
Among the scrips that slipped were Hero Honda by 3.29 per cent to Rs 1802.50, BHEL by 2.95 per cent to Rs 2123, Tata Power by 1.69 per cent to Rs 1281 and Maruti Suzuki by 1.98 per cent to Rs 1246.
