Railway revenue earnings up 8.5% during January 1-10

The earnings of Indian Railways during the period from January 1-10 this year were Rs. 2738.66 crore as compared to Rs. 2524.04 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.50 per cent, an official statement said here today.
The statement said the total goods earnings had gone up from Rs. 1781.17 crore during January 1-10 last year to Rs 1884.67 crore during the same period this year, an increase of 5.81 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the period this year were Rs. 737.35 crore as against Rs. 656.58 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 12.30 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 84.26 crore during this period compared to Rs. 62.83 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 34.11per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period January 1-10 this year were 232.16 million compared to 220.44 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.32 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during this period were 134.05 million and 98.11 million compared to 131.39 million and 89.05 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 2.02 per cent and 10.17 per cent, respectively, the statement added.
