Sowing of kharif crops in the country has crossed 693.83 lakh hectares (ha), as on July 24, as compared to 550.42 lakh ha at this time of the season last year, an official statement said, quoting reports from the states.
The statement said rice had been sown/transplanted in 188.52 lakh ha so far (as compare to 176.53 lakh ha at this time last year), pulses in 72.64 lakh ha (48.22) and coarse cereals in135.77 lakh ha (87.18 lakh ha).
According to it, oilseeds have been sown in 143.02 lakh ha (107.84 lakh ha), sugarcane in 46.59 lakh ha (46.42 lakh ha), jute & mesta in 7.77 lakh ha (8.09 lakh ha) and cotton in 99.52 lakh ha (76.13 lakh ha).
