General Atlantic to invest Rs 6,598.38 crore in Jio Platforms

American private equity firm General Atlantic will invest Rs 6,598.38 crore in Jio Platforms, a next-generation technology company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), an announcement said here today.

The announcement by RIL and Jio Platforms Limited said the investment valued Jio Platforms at an equity value of Rs 4.91 lakh crore and an enterprise value of Rs 5.16 lakh crore.

General Atlantic’s investment will translate into a 1.34% equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis, a press release from RIL said.

With this investment, Jio Platforms has raised Rs 67,194.75 crore from leading technology investors including Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners and General Atlantic in less than four weeks.

Jio Platforms is a next-generation technology platform focused on providing high-quality and affordable digital services across India, with more than 388 million subscribers.

The company has made significant investments across its digital ecosystem, powered by leading technologies spanning broadband connectivity, smart devices, cloud and edge computing, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, augmented and mixed reality and blockchain, the release said.

The transaction is subject to regulatory and other customary approvals, the release said.

Morgan Stanley acted as financial advisor to Reliance Industries and AZB & Partners, and Davis Polk & Wardwell acted as legal counsel. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. acted as legal counsel to General Atlantic.
