Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lead the Indian delegation to the 12th India-EU Summit, slated to be held here on February 10, which is expected to provide an opportunity to both sides to review the entire spectrum of their strategic relationship.
The summit is also expected to discuss various bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual concern.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso will lead the EU delegation to the meeting.
This would be the first such summit in India following the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, an official press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said.
It said a preparatory meeting for the summit was held between External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and Baroness Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on January 16 in Bangalore.
"India and the European Union share common values of democracy, respect for civil liberties and rule of law. India’s relationship with the EU has grown as our engagements in different areas have intensified over the years. This relationship will expand further as EU evolves. India values its relations with the European Union and sees the EU as a key strategic partner," the release added.
