Two killed as heavy rains batter Andhra Pradesh

Two people were washed away in the swollen river Godavari following heavy rain in parts of Andhra Pradesh during the last 24 hours, according to official sources today.
Flood waters entered many localities and even dwellings in Nizamabad which recorded a whopping 12 cms rainfall, while many villages were marooned in Adilabad district.
Road communication was also badly affected due to heavy rain in the districts, the sources said.
The Godavari was rising in Khammam and Warangal districts, while rivulets and canals overflowed following the downpour, they said.
Hyderabad, too, experienced incessant rain and heavy showers with a heavily
overcast sky.
The weather office has forecast more rain with heavy spells over a few places in
the state during the next 48 hours.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation this morning at a meeting with Chief Secretary P K Mohanty and other senior officials.
According to information received here, eight people have so far died in the state in the rains, including 4 in Karimnagar, 2 in Khammam and one each in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.
