Hyderabad, May 18, 2012

2008 champions Rajasthan Royals crashed out of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) going down by five-wickets to tournament's favourite whipping boys Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here Friday.

In their must-win match, Rajasthan Royals performed badly after skipper Rahul Dravid opted to bat first. Dravid top scored with 39 as Rajasthan Royals struggled to get 126 for eight in 20 overs, their lowest total of the season.
South Africa pacer Dale Steyn was again the pick of the Deccan Chargers bowlers, bagging two for 16 from his four overs. Veer Pratap Singh (2-31) and Amit Mishra (2-20) did well to stem the flow of runs. Steyn was also adjudged Man of the Match.
Deccan Chargers chased down the target scoring 128 for five with eight balls to spare after Akshath Reddy struck a 35-ball 42 while Shikhar Dhawan (26) and Jean Paul Duminy (24) also contributed well for just their third win in the season from 15 matches and also the first at home.
Rajasthan Royals are lying at the seventh spot with 14 points from 15 matches. With still a match in hand against Mumbai Indians, Royals chances are over as even if they win they will finish with 16 points, not enough to take them through.
A disappointed Dravid said: "I don't think it was the pressure, we did not play good cricket, should have recognised it was a 150-wicket not more. Very disappointed in the dressing room, tough dressing room I have just left. Don't look at stats too much, need to look at our own strengths, it was a bat-first wicket, we did not bat too well. Hope to deliver in front of our fans at home."
Deccan Chargers' skipper Cameron White was happy that the team has finally broken the jinx at home.
"I hope the jinx of losing here is gone, good team effort to win it. We felt we bowled well, the way the track played, we would have batted first too. When you have won only two games in the tournament, there are always nerves, need to come back well against Gayle and co. with some plans," he said.
Steyn said he enjoyed the season a lot but said it would have been better had the team won more.
"I don't want to discuss too many of my plans (laughs), teams respect me too much sometimes. My job is to run in, bowl fast and strike early, have been used in different situations, got to do job assigned to you," he said.
