Kalyan Kumar Chakravarty appointed chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi

New Delhi, February 12, 2013

The President has appointed Mr Kalyan Kumar Chakravarty, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi, the national academy of art.

Mr Chakravarty, who belonged to the 1970 batch of the IAS, retired in the rank of Secretary to the Government of India.
During his career, he held several posts related to cultural administration, including as Member-Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and Director General, National Museum, New Delhi.
In Madhya Pradesh, he had served as Director, Education, Archaeology and Museums, Special Secretary, Culture, Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya at Bhopal, and Principal Secretary/Additional Chief Secretary for Culture, Education, Environment, Forest and Tourism, Government of Chhattisgarh.
Mr Chakravarty will hold office till the end of the calendar year in which he completes 70 years of age i.e. upto 31.12.2017, an official press release added.
