Fire destroys 27 shops in Madurai

Twenty seven shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a market at Keela Maarat Street, a busy commercial locality in the city last night.
Personnel of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department rushed to the site and extinguished the inferno after a couple of hours with the help of locals.
However, no casualty was reported in the mishap. The loss is expected to run into lakhs of rupees. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Vehicular traffic was diverted to an alternative route in view of the fire. Further investigations were on, police added.
