Actor Fardeen Khan pleads not guilty in narcotics case

Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan today pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him in a narcotics case.

Designated Judge G A Sanap, after recording the statement of the actor, adjourned further hearing till November 2.

Fardeen was arrested in 2001 for allegedly buying cocaine from a drugs dealer in the city, The actor had said he had consumed less than a gram.

Consumption of more than a gram of banned substances can lead to a jail sentence of 10 years.

Arguing on behalf of Fardeen, advocate Ayaz Khan contended in the court that his client was falsely implicated and the alleged quantity of the drug seized was not a commercial quantity and it was only a quantity used for consumption. Hence, under the Narcotics Act, he cannot be held responsible for possessing the quantity.

The court also recorded the submission made by the defence and adjourned the proceedings.
