Acclaimed ghazal singer Jagjit Singh was admitted today to Lilavati Hospital in the western suburb of Bandra in Mumbai after he suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Doctors there performed a life-saving surgery on him, hospital sources said.
According to doctors, the singer's history of heart ailment might have triggered the haemorrhage.
Singh (70) is under observation and is stated to be in critical condition, they said.
In January 1998, he had suffered a heart attack. In October 2007, he was hospitalised following blood circulation problems.
Jagjit Singh is married to singer Chitra Singh. Their only son, Vivek, died in a road accident in the early 1990s.
