Woman, son murdered in Madurai; jewellery, cash missing

A woman and her six-year-old son were found murdered in their house at Navarathinapuram locality on the Kamarajar Road in this city of Tamil Nadu late last night.

Police sources said here today that the victims V Durga Devi (32) and her son V Sriram, a first standard student, were found dead in a pool of blood in their house located on the first floor.

Their throats were slit and bodies bore several stab injuries. The woman’s husband Vijayakumar (40), who was running a tailoring shop, was away from home.

The steel almirah was also found broken and the gold jewellery, weighing 30 sovereigns, and Rs 1 lakh in cash were missing. The gold bangles and gold chain wore by the woman were also missing.

Senior police officials and finger print experts rushed to the house and began investigations. Police were investigating whether the woman and her son were murdered for gain or there was any other motive behind the crime.

It was also a mystery that how the double murder was unnoticed as the house is located in a thickly populated area. Moreover, the family of Vijayakumar’s elder brother was residing on the ground floor of the house.
