A major mishap was averted when the engine of the 12301 Up Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express was derailed after two pairs of front wheels came off at Gangpur station near Barddhaman junction, about 100 kms from here today, Eastern Railway sources said.

There was no injury in the accident that occurred at 1755 hours, exactly one hour after the train left Howrah station from platform nine.

The mishap happened just 7 kms short of Barddhaman on the Shaktigarh-Barddhaman section of Eastern Railway's Howrah section.

ER's General Manager Varun Bharthuar along with several senior officials rushed to the site to supervise the restoration of train services.
