Palanpur, May 13, 2011
A helicopter of the Border Security Force (BSF) crashed some 15 km from Abu Road today, killing three jawans of the para-military force and the pilot.
The copter was on its way to Jodhpur from Gandhinagar this afternoon, when the incident occurred, said Mount Abu Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Parmeshwaran B.
"As soon as we got the message, we swung into action and rushed towards Fatehpura village attached to Bahadurpura Panchayat where the mishap had taken place," he said.
Confirming the incident, an official of the search team, which rushed to the spot, said the copter crashed with the hills of Aravali rages near Mount Abu, and none of the four men on board, including the pilot, survived.
A BSF official who was on the way to the spot, said it was too early to give a reason for the crash.
Eye witnesses said the aircraft had caught fire before it crashed.
