Four more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 604, an official statement said here today.
While no deaths were reported during the day today, four deaths that occurred earlier -- three in Rajasthan and one in Gujarat -- were reported by the state authorities to the Union Health Ministry, it said.
Of the total H1N1 deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 228, while 123 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 57 in Rajasthan, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 47 in Gujarat, 26 in Kerala, 25 in Delhi, 9 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 each in Uttarakhand and Puducherry , 5 each in Goa and Punjab, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh and Orissa and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram.
Meanwhile, as many as 290 fresh cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today, including 141 in Delhi, 47 in Rajasthan, 34 in Haryana, 20 in Maharashtra, 16 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 11 in Karnataka, 2 each in Kerala and Punjab and 1 each in Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 19,162, the statement added.
