President, VP condole death of Tyeb Mehta

President Pratibha Patil and Vice-President M Hamid Ansari today condoled the passing away of well-known artist Tyeb Mehta, who died in Mumbai yesterday at the age of 84.
In her condolence message, Ms Patil said Mr Mehta was a celebrated artist and a role model for modern and contemporary Indian artists.
"He had exhibited a number of heart touching paintings such as 'Celebration', 'Kali' and 'Mahishasura'. He will be a source of inspiration for all those interested in art and culture. In his passing away the nation has lost a creative and acclaimed artist," she said.
Mr Ansari said he was deeply grieved to learn about the demise of Mr Mehta, whom he described as a brilliant artist who had contributed immensely to the world of painting.
"He will ever remain a major source of inspiration to younger generations. In his death, the country has lost an eminent artist," he said.
"My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the wide circle of his admirers and friends. We pray to the Almighty to grant them strength and fortitude to withstand this tragedy," he added.
