India's consumer inflation rate declines to 8.79% in January 2014

India's consumer inflation rate, based on the all-India General Consumer Price Index (CPI) (Combined) for January 2014, declined to 8.79 per cent as compared to 9.87 per cent for the previous month.
An official statement, quoting the provisional data, said the corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban areas for January 2014 were 9.43 per cent and 8.09 per cent, respectively, against 10.49 per cent and 9.11 per cent, respectively, for the previous month.
The General Indices for rural, urban and combined were 139.3, 135.0        and 137.4, respectively, it said.
The data released today showed that the inflation rate in January 2014 was 9.90 per cent for food and beverage, 6.54 for fuel and light and 9.38 per cent for clothing, bedding and footwear.
