India's exports up 6.97% in March 2013 at $ 30.85 billion

India's exports rose for the third straight month, going up by 6.97 per cent in March this year to $30.850 billion from the level of $ 28.839 billion in the same month of the previous year.
In rupee terms, the exports increased by 15.65 per cent higher at Rs 167836.31 crore in March this year as compared to Rs 145123.41 crore during the same month in 2012.
The country's exports had returned to positive territory after a gap of eight months with a 0.82 per cent growth in January this year over the corresponding month last year.
The cumulative value of exports for the period April-March 2012-13 was $ 30.058 billion (Rs 1635261.02 crore) as against $ 305. 964 billion (Rs 1465959.40 crore), registering a decline of 1.76 per cent in dollar terms and growth of 11.55 per cent in rupee terms over the same period last year.
The statement said imports during March 2013 were valued at $ 41.165 billion (Rs 223954.98 crore) representing a negative growth of 2.87 per cent in dollar terms and a growth of 5.01 per cent in rupee terms over the level
of imports valued at $ 42.381 billion ( Rs 213265.08 crore) in March 2012.
The cumulative value of imports for the period April-March 2012-13 was $ 491.487 billion (Rs 2673113.08 crore) as against $ 489.319 billion (Rs. 2345463.25 crore) registering a growth of 0.44 per cent in dollar terms and growth of 13.97 per cent in rupee terms over the same period last year.
Oil imports during March 2013 were valued at $ 13.327 billion which was 16.56 per cent lower than oil imports valued at $ 15.972 billion in the corresponding period last year. Oil imports during April-March 2012-13 were valued at $ 169.253 billion which was 9.22 per cent higher than the oil imports of $ 154.967 billion in the corresponding period last year.
Non-oil imports during March 2013 were estimated at $ 27.838 billion which was 5.41 per cent higher than non-oil imports of $ 26.408 billion in March, 2012. Non-oil imports during April - March 2012-13 were valued at $ 322.234 billion which was 3.62 per cent lower than the level of such imports valued at $ 334.352 billion in April - March 2011-12.
The trade deficit for April - March 2012-13 was estimated at $ 190.916 billion which was higher than the deficit of $ 183.356 billion during April -March 2011-12, the statement added.
