Mukherjee to inaugurate 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekanand on Saturday

President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the year-long commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan here tomorrow.

The Government of India had earlier constituted a National Committee under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to consider policies and to lay down guidelines for the commemoration and to decide on the time frame for the commemoration related activities.

After Mr Mukherjee assumed office as President in July last year, Defence Minister A K Antony had been appointed as chairman of the National Implementation Committee.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Communications Minister Kapil Sibal, Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch and Swami Suhitananda, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math are slated to attend the inaugural function tomorrow.

The programme will consist of addresses by dignitaries on the importance and relevance of this commemoration, in the present context. Children from the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi will render a singing performance. A set of commemorative coins and commemorative stamps on Swami Vivekananda will also be released on the occasion, an official press release added.
