Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar seriously injured in road accident

Well-known Malayalam film actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who has acted in more than 1100 movies in all kinds of roles, suffered serious injuries in a road accident at Panambra, close to the Calicut University, at Thenhipalam near Kozhikode in Kerala early today.
He was rushed to the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Kozhikode, where he underwent an emergency surgery.
A spokesman for the hospital said he was in a stable condition after the surgery. According to him, the actor, 61, had suffered multiple injuries, including in the neck, abdomen, chest and legs.
Reports said the actor, popularly known as Jagathy, was on his way from Thrissur to Coorg in Karnataka, the location of director Lenin Rajendran's latest film, Edavapathi, when the mishap occurred around 5 am.
They said the Innova car, in which he was travelling, crashed into the median on National Highway 17 while negotiating a sharp curve. The driver of the car also suffered injuries. Both of them have been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital. The actor was put on a ventilator.
Jagathy has excelled in all kinds of roles, especially comedy, and has won the State Government's award in different categories four times.
