CBI arrests Superintendent of Service Tax in Bangalore in bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had arrested a Superintendent, Service Tax in Bangalore for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 from an individual.
The agency said in a press release here today that a case was registered against the officer under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegation of demanding a bribe from the complainant as a motive or reward for not imposing heavy service tax penalty and also to allegedly close the file.
The Superintendent was caught red handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 from the complainant. A search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused, the release said.
The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore who remanded the accused person to judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress, the release added.
