Applications invited for SAARC Youth Award-2011

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has invited applications for the SAARC Youth Award-2011 which is aimed at recognising extra-ordinary young talents and encouraging the overall development of the youth in the region, in particular fields of contribution to society.
Apart from recognising the outstanding work done by young persons, the award is aimed at providing youth the incentive to achieve excellence in various fields, impoving educational and technical skills of youth and encouraging them in creative activities; and encouraging among youth positive social attitudes and values.
The theme of the 2011 award has been decided as “Youth Leadership in the fight against social ills”, an official press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said. It is intended that the award will be conferred at a ministerial meeting in the second half of 2012, it said.
The award is open to Indian nationals who are within the age group of 20-35 years as on April 15, 2012. It will consist of a citation in English, a SAARC Gold Medal, a cash prize of $ 3000 and per diem and return air ticket for travel to the venue of the presentation of the award.
The last date for receipt of applications on the prescribed format is 5 March, 2012.
