Indirect tax collections up 15.1% during Apr-Jan, on target for fiscal year

Indirect tax collections have grown by 15.1 per cent in the April-January period of the current fiscal year to Rs 317,233 crore from Rs 275,507 crore in the first ten months of 2010-11, an official statement has said.

According to it, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) had achieved nearly 80.74 per cent of the Budget Estimates for the period upto January 2012 in the current fiscal.
 
"At the present rate of growth, CBEC should be able to achieve the target of Rs 3,92,908 crore," the statement said.
 
The overall growth in indirect tax revenue collections during the month of January 2012 was around 7.2 per cent at Rs 31,446 crore as compared with Rs 29,339 crore in the same month of the previous financial year.
