The Union Budget for 2012-13, delayed because of the ongoing Assembly elections in five States, will be presented on March 16, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said here today.
He told reporters that the Budget session of Parliament will start on March 12, with President Pratibha Patil slated to deliver the customary address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on that day.
The Railway Budget will be presented on March 14 and the Economic Survey on March 15, Bansal said.
"We will be recommending to the President that budget session may be summoned on March 12 and continue up to March 30," he said after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
The Budget session normally begins in the third week of February and the Budget is usually presented on the last working day of that month.
The second part of the Budget session will be from April 24 to May 22 after a three-week recess.
Polling for the Assembly elections has already been completed in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur. Uttar Pradesh will have polling in seven phases between tomorrow and March 3, while Goa is slated to go to the polls on March 3. Counting of votes will be taken up in all the five states on March 6.
