16 people injured as earth-moving vehicle hits train in Assam

At least 16 passengers were injured when the engine and nine coaches of a passenger train derailed after hitting an earth-moving vehicle at an unmanned level crossing near Guwhati in Assam this morning, railway officials said.
They said the mishap occurred around 9.15 am today when the Bongaigaon-Guwahati Chilarai passenger train crashed into the JCB machine at the crossing at Gossainghati between Azara and Mirza railway stations.
Rescue teams from the North-East Frontier Railway, the district administration and the National Disaster Response Force rushed to the spot and moved the injured to hospitals in Guwahati, the sources said.
