CBI files case against former Army Vice-Chief Lt Gen Thamburaj, others in land scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had registered a case against former Army Vice-Chief Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj, former Defence Estate Officer S R Nayyar and Pune-based builder Kalpataru in an alleged defence land scam in Pune dating back to 2008.
 
They have been accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misconduct in the out-of-court settlement of a land dispute to benefit the private builder to the tune of Rs 46 crore.
 
A press release from the agency said it had filed a case against Lt Gen Thamburaj, now retired, then GOC-in-C, Southern Command, Pune, the Defence Estate Officer, the builder and others under sections 120-B, 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the  Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 on receipt of a complaint from the Defence Ministry.
